No new cases of the stomach flu and everybody feeling ready and raring to go Yeah!!! Fingers crossed that holds.
We checked out of the Airbnb in Florence and went for a last breakfast at a little cafe down the street we enjoyed. We walked to have a last gander at the Duomo and then to take a pic and give a thank you to the musicians that entertained us during our stay here. Two guitarists played in the The Piazza della Repubblica just two minutes from our place and we could hear their beautiful music early till late.
We were only a ten minute walk from the train station so we picked up our bags and headed that way.
We would be in Venice in about 2 1/2 hours. We had never been to Venice and had read so many mixed reviews we really weren’t sure what to expect. But when we got off the train and walked through the train station, this was our first glimpse.
It was beautiful. It wasn’t busy, it wasn’t stinky – it was so neat. First impressions were great. Will assess again after we explore. We knew our Airbnb was within walking distance of the train station so we set off.
Our Airbnb is so much like the ones we stayed at in the other Italian cities. They work great for us but lots of stairs. We are on the 3rd floor and since Europeans count floor 1 as zero and the ceilings are 12 feet high on each floor – that’s a lot of stairs. They are great as they have all the amenities of a house with two bedrooms. We have been very comfortable and for considerably less than hotel rooms in the same area.
After we got unpacked – we did our grocery store run – back up the 80 stairs with groceries and out to explore!
We walked aimlessly until we stopped for gelato, walked and explored some more and stopped for a drink and walked till dusk and then stopped for pizza. What’s not to love. First impressions of Venice – still great – love it! Amazing city.
I loved Venice. Make sure you have a gondola ride. ❣️
