What a start to our day. This morning at 8:30 a knock on the door and this.
Homemade bread – Andrea grinds her own seeds for flour. A pitcher of fresh milk (her husband, Peter got it from the farmer this morning). It was heated as they serve coffee very strong and then fill the cup 1/2 full of hot milk. Muesli – oatmeal, seeds dried fruits and nuts. Freshly squeezed juice – real mortadella with pistachios in it. 2 decorated hard boiled eggs (they decorate with threads and then red onion skin boiled in water) a hard and a soft alpine cheese. 2 jars of homemade strawberry yogurt, Honey and 2 jars of her own jam. Homemade crackers. Anyway……What a treat. A nice way to start the day (especially when restaurant prices are really high here)
After savouring that wonderful breakfast and having a second cup of coffee looking at the mountains we headed into Interlaken to start our day. When our village bus took us down the mountain to catch the Interlaken bus – we noticed the ferry just pulling up so we ran and got on it instead. It was a bit of a detour because it took us across Lake Thun into Spiez and then we would catch the Interlaken train from there. But it gave us a chance to ride on a ferry and see another beautiful village, and we are in no rush.
Once we got to Interlaken we caught a train up to the Alpine village of Grindlewold high in the mountains. We had read about what a beautiful village it was and we wanted to see it for ourselves. It is also a place where you can catch a cable car to First. First (pronounced as ‘Feerst’) is one of the most popular mountains in the Jungfrau region. The gondola ride takes 25 minutes to get up and the last time we took a cable car it was raining and then snowing so we were excited to see the views on a clear day (with no Irish Whiskey) .
We had a great day. The weather was perfect and the views were clear and sunny. On the way home we got visiting with a couple from the States and weren’t listening to the stops. We ended up jumping off one too early so we had a good mile to walk. It actually ended up being a great end to the day. The scenery was wonderful and there were benches and rest stops along the way.
That brought our sunny Swiss day to a close. We savoured some Swiss chocolate we bought in Grindlewold and called it a night.
And we woke to the predicted rain. I was actually smiling a bit as we had decided if it rained to give the Swiss Solbad Spa a try. It is just a couple blocks from where we are staying and they allow day guests to buy a pass to all the amenities of the spa. We had packed bathing suits that hadn’t been used till now so after another of Andrea’s wonderful breakfasts we headed to the spa.
After a relaxing day at the spa we walked up the hill to the Coop for some treats and to go to Rosy’s cafe for some of her delicious homemade spring asparagus soup and homemade bread.
It was just spitting now and we walked the long way home just to soak in the last of this great little place. Love you Sigriswil!
We saw Magnolia trees too. After a cool time in Vienna it was a treat in Belgium. The beauty of Spring makes the scenery even more fantastic! Sigrisil and this Air BnB is now on our bucket list 💗
Such wonderful memories 💖
